  15. <p>     DIED. PRINCE LOUIS FERDINAND OF PRUSSIA, 86, grandson of Kaiser
  16. Wilhelm II; in Bremen, Germany. Louis Ferdinand would have sat
  17. on the throne of Germany--but for the fact that there was
  18. no throne to sit on after his country's defeat in World War
  19. I. Instead, he engaged in such unprincely pursuits as working
  20. at a Detroit auto plant in the '30s. A German pilot instructor
  21. in World War II, Louis Ferdinand had links with the conspirators
  22. who planned the unsuccessful attempt on Hitler's life in 1944.
  23. Some of the plotters proposed that he assume leadership of the
  24. state after Hitler's demise--as close as the prince ever came
  25. to a shot at his ancestral day job.
